4 months ago"Beautiful hike with multiple lava tubes. Use all trails or something like it. Stone carabs in place, but it is good to see where you are in the loop. Also, be sure to have a higher clearance vehicle for the dirt road in."

10 months ago"It's pretty neat. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Take some water. It's not a far walk from the parking area, probably half a mile. Follow the markers with white stones on top and you'll be fine."

a year ago"This was awesome. Highly recommend. The skylight cave is still there unlike the other review says. When you park follow the stacks of rocks to the cave, maybe about 10 minutes. Then head to the left, cross over the arch (like a bridge across) and walk left. In a few minutes you’ll see a spot you can climb down. From there head left under the arch, into the cave and you’ll see the skylight cave. Keep going and walk all through the epic cave, crawl through an opening to another space, hang right and loop around and you’ll meet back up with your original path to get out. NEED: Thick sturdy shoes for the lava, physical ability to walk over Boulder fields, multiple lights (if one dies you’d be in total darkness) and gloves. It took us over 2 hours but we were moving slow and taking our time."

5 years ago"I have never hiked in the dark, but it was fun, adventous, nice and cool on a spring day. A tons of climbing, not for toddlers which we found out today, more for older kids. Make sure to bring headlights and follow the red markers in the cave. It was beautiful, quite and the cleanest public restroom I have ever seen. Make sure to take water and hiking boots."

3 years ago"Wow! What an amazing opportunity to hike on the youngest lava flows in this part of the world. The hike is strenuous due to the uneven a’a lava flows, but it’s SO WORTH IT! We saw caves, lava bridges, and more. Bring plenty of water and a first aid kit just in case — if you fall while hiking here, it will hurt. Those rocks are sharp. Make sure to check road conditions with a ranger before heading out this way, it can be hard to access after rain!"
