Centennial Trail - Schneider's Passage

"Not too far from that swing bridge, Is this bald eagle's nest .. Took these pictures 2 days ago. But you can't see it from the paved trail Went back a week later, in more of a stealth mode, & got pictures of the happy couple .. the Male circling over head.. and his mate perched center screen in the distance. Zoom in! Was out on eclipse day!! And rescued a little baby snapper... Sometimes turtles or snakes, get stuck along that cement wall.. So if you're out there biking or hiking, & you see one of them Little critters up against the wall.. please help them over.. they can't all find the little Gates to let them get through.. Went fishing along the trail yesterday.. 5-4-2024.. on a point not too far from the Eagles nest.. and hit several little dropoff fishing spots.. following the trail North.. landed/released seven smallmouth.. had four more on that I lost.. and also lost one, that look like a pike.. it was frequented by many snakes.. And one of the Eagles even came over to check out all the excitement! Careful with the snakes.. for people walking the trail.. they to found right along the wall, definitely water moccasins.. fairly aggressive.. As long as you don't veer off the asphalt you're fine.."

"Paved trail with beautiful views of the Des plain river. Stroller friendly. There are a lot of bicyclists tho! If you're walking take caution because they are fast. Be sure to get a picture of the swing bridge and check out the historic fact of it!"

"I rode 18 miles today. Some reviews of the trail make it sound "iffy". My experience was very positive. Other than a one mile stretch on a road running through some construction companies (with light traffic), the trail is mostly in wooded areas. There is a brief stretch with several bumps (painted orange} but the trail is generally well maintained. I would definitely ride again."
