"Amazing and fantastic prehistoric Native American ruins. The visitors center is very nice, and the ruins areas are well kept and accessible. Very much off the beaten path, but well worth the effort. The road in is gravel and dirt for a good long ways. We experienced no problems, however, as other reviewers mention, a heavy rain or significant snow will turn some of the dirt areas into a heck of a mess."

"Sacred place! On 29th December 2025, we visited Chaco Culture National Historical Park to see the ancient Pueblo culture with our friends. We explored several self-guided, easy and short trails including Una Vida, Hungo Pavi, Chetro Ketl and Pueblo Bonito. This area is home to ancestral Puebloan sites like Una Vida, the massive Hungo Pavi Great House, Chetro Ketl (the second-largest great house), great kivas, ancient Pueblo remains, and important petroglyphs. We explored the rooms of Chacoan Great Houses to witness their distinctive construction and enormous stone walls. To reach to the park requires a high-clearance vehicle for the rough, primitive dirt road. Please wear heat protection and put on sturdy hiking shoes. The park is well-managed and preserved. All the trails are properly marked. The park staff are really welcoming and assisted us in understanding the directions. The visitor center offers a beautiful selection of souvenirs and has informative exhibits."

"The time spent driving to the Chaco Visitors Center is worth it, but largely unmarked, you need to know where your are going. One of the staff members on duty was very helpful, she showed us hiking options and driving instructions to the trailhead. We were traveling with 2 kids, under 10 yo, and wanted to be sure they could hike safely with us. We climbed up the Puelbo Alto trail, tough climb up to the slot, but easy going across the plateau to the overlook. Worth the climb! After you reach the designated overlook, we recommend continuing around, not too much further to an undersigned overlook area. The view to the ruins is better. Pics are from the second overlook"
