Cimarron Canyon State Park

"Nice and quiet. Being next to the small lake that’s there is awesome and there’s plenty of people catching fish. Seems like a good family environment and there was only one person with a quiet generator when we stayed there so it didn’t bother anybody."

"Beautiful place to spend the day. We went to the gravel pits to go fishing and caught several trout. It was so peaceful and the fall colors were amazing."

"Wow! Seriously this area is so beautiful! Great simple camping, the only thing negative I can say is we did have a small issue with another group being loud after quiet hours but I called and left a VM and the park host took care of it. Great trout fishing the park is right on the river. Our camp was only maybe 20 feet from the river (Tolby campsite #6). It is also super close to the town of Red River/Eagle Nest and a short (beautiful) drive through the Carson National Park. We will be going back!"

"Cimarron Canyon is an amazing place with the most beautiful and dramatic features. The day use parks and overnight campgrounds are in great shape and provide a excellent retreat from the world. Cimarron Creek runs through the canyon with lots of pull outs to sit, fish, or draw. I stayed at the Maverick Campground. Well managed with running water. They have sites that are not up against the road, so it's quite with several stocked fishing ponds. Overnight is just $10. Best deal ever!"

"The park itself is really cool. The scenery is awesome, truly the perfect blend of mountain and plains. We stayed for 3 nights, two of them at the blackjack campground. The campground was nice, the fire rings were good and the picnic table was good. If you are tent camping, I highly recommend staying in the blackjack area. You can’t book it online and you do have to walk to the site but it’s not too far. There is no engine break ordinance and people are not super considerate on the main road. I was woken up a few times from very loud vehicles passing. As far as reservations go, if you do a walk in, then you just fill out a slip of paper at the site and pay in the self pay area. Rangers come around and check every night so make sure to have your permit displayed. We tried to go to the visitors center but the door was locked so I guess nobody was there even though it said it was open. THERE ARE NO SHOWERS. So don’t count on being able to wash up. There are vault toilets and actual flushing toilets at most of the campsites. Overall it was good. Recommend doing the clear water creek hike if you can!"
