Gateway Arch National Park

"If you haven’t been to the Gateway Arch in a few years, you haven’t actually seen the Arch. We recently visited to check out the massive renovations, and the difference is night and day. What used to feel like a slightly dated, disconnected monument has been transformed into a world-class national park experience that is much more inviting and "St. Louis" at its core. The Museum & Visitor Center The real star of the show now is the updated museum. It is spectacular. Usually our kids are not that interested in museums, but it was able to entertain a five and eight-year-old as well as the adults. • The Entrance: The new glass-enclosed entrance at the street level (rather than the old underground feeling) makes such a statement. It feels modern, bright, and way more welcoming. • The Layout: They’ve expanded the museum significantly, and it’s finally organized in a way that tells a cohesive story. The interactive galleries—covering everything from the colonial era to the building of the Arch itself—are engaging for both kids and adults. It feels high-tech and thoughtfully curated, making the wait for the tram much more enjoyable. Connection to the City The biggest improvement for us was the Park Over the Highway. It used to feel like you were crossing a barrier to get to the grounds, but the new greenway connecting the Arch to the Old Courthouse and Kiener Plaza makes the whole area feel like one continuous, beautiful park. It’s finally "stitched" into the city, making it a much nicer walk than it used to be. The Tram & The View The ride to the top is still that classic, slightly claustrophobic (but iconic!) St. Louis bucket list item. While the "pods" haven’t changed, the updated video presentations in the loading area give you a better appreciation for the engineering marvel you’re about to stand on. Once you’re at the top, the views of the Mississippi and the city skyline are as breathtaking as ever, but the whole process leading up to it feels much more polished and professional now. Final Verdict The "facelift" this National Park received was worth every penny of the investment. It’s no longer just a quick photo-op; it’s a place where you can spend several hours learning, walking the grounds, and enjoying the riverfront. It is much nicer than it used to be, and it’s a must-see for locals and tourists alike."

"Iconic, inspiring, and absolutely worth the visit! Gateway Arch National Park is a must-see in St. Louis. The Arch itself is stunning up close and even more impressive once you go to the top. The tram ride is a fun experience, and the views of the city and Mississippi River are unreal. The grounds are clean, peaceful, and perfect for walking or relaxing, and the museum below the Arch is surprisingly engaging and well done. It blends history, architecture, and scenery in a way that feels meaningful, not touristy. Whether it’s your first time or a return visit, this place never disappoints. "Visiting the arch was an amazing experience! Seeing it is way better in person than in pictures or driving by on the highway. It is not hard to get to, only a minute off the highway. The parking is very convenient and close, and was only $10 for 5 hours. (East Staidum parking garage) All of the staff were very nice. The park is exceptionally maintained and I loved the brick walkways and benches around the property. Inside, the museum was fantastic. It took over an hour to see it all, and it could of been a lot longer if I had more time. Going to the top was great as well. I highly recommend seeing the documentary about how the arch was built. It was very interesting. I will definitely be returning."

I took time to drive around downtown St. Louis, and one of the most impressive things about the Arch is how visible it is from nearly every direction. Whether you’re approaching from the highway, winding through city streets, or strolling near the riverfront, the Arch keeps reappearing—always dramatic, always photogenic. It creates a strong sense of place and history right in the heart of the city. The surrounding downtown area felt vibrant and walkable, with great vantage points for photography and plenty of opportunities to appreciate how the Arch anchors the city skyline. Seeing it up close after all these years felt meaningful—one of those classic American landmarks that truly lives up to its reputation."
