Ha Ha Tonka State Park

"Had a fantastic experience at Ha Ha Tonka State Park near the Lake of the Ozarks! The park is incredibly scenic with a perfect mix of natural beauty and history. The castle ruins are unique and offer amazing views, and the trails are well-maintained with plenty of spots to stop and take in the surroundings. The spring and boardwalk areas are especially peaceful and refreshing. Great place for hiking, photography, or just a relaxing day outdoors. Clean facilities, easy access, and definitely worth the visit!"

"BEAUTIFUL!!  My partner and I spent less than 2.5 hours at the park, but I'd love to dedicate a full weekend to soak it all in.  We were limited with time, but I like to think that we made the best of it.  We started at the visitor center that was closed for the winter (we visited on March 9, 2026) and made our way to the Spring Trailhead to begin our hike. On our hike, we walked along Spring Trail and deviated at the very beginning for a view of a small waterfall.  We took the stairs up Spring Trail and walked around the lake to reach the ruins. What a story!  Wealthy businessman from Kansas City decides to build an elaborate European-style castle and ends up dying before construction is finished.  His sons complete it around 15 years later and it burns!!  Then 50 years later vandals burn the water tower overlooking the spring and property.  A tale of caution maybe.  Either way, it all makes for beautiful hiking!! Ha Ha Tonka is home to the 12th largest natural spring in the state of Missouri.  After viewing the ruins, the hike back down felt quick.  In a single square mile, the park contains more classic karst features—caves, springs, chasms, sinkholes, underground streams, and natural bridges—than any other place in the state.  It's really a fascinating place and I can't wait to return, hopefully in the fall to enjoy the foliage. There was plenty of parking available on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, lots of fishing spots, picnic tables for dining, and pit toilets (but we stopped at the visitor center on the way out instead because they were cleaner)."

"The views are stunning! The history behind the castle and the water tower are a good read. It's hard to believe they stood only 100 years ago. I do not recommend taking a stroller down any of the walking paths."

"The weather was so nice on Christmas Eve that we decided to take a trip and visit Ha Ha Tonka State Park! Glad we did because it was stunning in December. We arrived a few hours before sunset and explored both the ruins and a few trails. Trails were clean and the ruins were very well maintained! Not to mention parking was a breeze (probably because it was Christmas Eve 🤣). We ended up taking a drive down to a different hiking path to get a better view from the ruins and it was well worth the steps for the views! Definitely looking forward to coming back when the weather is nice!"

"Had a wonderful time! This park is definitely worth a visit. Gorgeous views. My husband and I are disabled and appreciated the close handicap parking and the rest areas on the way to the castle ruins. Will definitely return."
