Herzstein Memorial Museum

"I recently visited the Herzstein Memorial Museum in Clayton, New Mexico, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The museum itself is beautifully curated and thoughtfully organized, offering a rich look into the history of northeastern New Mexico. From local heritage to regional artifacts, every exhibit felt meaningful and well cared for. You can tell there’s genuine pride behind the presentation. What truly made the visit exceptional, though, was the museum’s director. Incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, she went above and beyond to make the experience even more enjoyable. Her passion for the museum and the community really shines through, and it adds a personal touch you don’t always find. If you’re anywhere near Clayton — or even just passing through — I highly recommend stopping in. It’s a hidden gem and well worth the visit."

"A most amazing museum experience. Two-story former church, etc. building with beautiful stained glass windows. Every nock and cranny has an interesting story. If possible, take the guided tour. She has intriguing tales to tell. Throughly delightful curator is young and so interested in every aspect of the history of Clayton and it's people. Don't miss this one."

"Awesome museum with a wide variety of memorabilia from the 1800s and 1900s. The museum is free but they would appreciate any donations. It is clean well-maintained and exhibits are clearly labeled. The museum curators are knowledgeable and informative. An average visit might be 1-2 hours, but you still will not see everything."

"This museum is a must stop. The collections portray a great part of the history of Clayton. Capturing a small cities history is clearly rich for the tourist and very important for the next generation of locals--this museum does it well for both. I can't say enough great words about.the collections and the portrayed history,but the real gem if this museumnl is the docent Brittney. Her explanations make the story boards and artifacts make the story come alive and stick with you. This is a finest museum visit we had in a 6,000 mile journey.
