"You have to call ahead to make an appointment. Don't just drop in. The place is all volunteers and this is a small town. They'll come open it for you, and probably on your schedule. The most accurate review on here already is that the place will never compete with a big city kids museum, but this is a charming place run by volunteers who have put their soul into this place. For that, the place is incredible, particularly because of how interactive the volunteers are with the kids. There are old fossils, minerals, shells, and microscopes that they'll help you use to look at them. There are tons of items to touch and interact with for the kids. There's an animals of Tennessee room, a simulated cave, and some local anthropological collections. There's interactive weather, puzzles music and a cosmos room with a telescope. And they're working to do more. But the volunteers will also tell you the history of the town, and the purpose of the project - which is to provide an educational space for the local children who don't have really any spaces like that. The place is free, but they ask that you donate money to this project - it's a good one. I think our relative who lives close by was inspired enough to help out. Plan an hour - feel free to take more time. Bring a group."

"We took our son to the Newburg Children's Museum multiple times when it was just starting. From the beginning, they had high hopes and I feared that it would fail. They kept at it and continued to improve. It will never compete with the children's museums in large cities, but it is good in its own way. Our normal visit would involve going to the museum and having a picnic by the railroad tracks. Our son liked the dinosaur room and digging for "fossils" in the sand. Because it is small, we usually received very personal treatment from the staff. It has been a few years since we moved away from Missouri, but I check the website now and then to see how much the museum continues to improve."
