Old Joliet Prison

"Very much enjoyed the self guided tour. There were employees walking the premises that had loads of knowledge so u can ask any questions you come up with. The blue brothers nods were fun too, my hubby loved that aspect. I enjoyed the dilapidated and burnt structures and learning about the prison industrial system. Left with a couple of items from the merch shop and enjoyed our time"

"I LOVED VISITING HERE. We did a self walk around tour and it’s shocking how many films I didn’t know used this location. We visited from the UK as it was on my bucket list after watching the Blues Brothers when I was a teenager and Jake left the jail before going on his mission for god. It’s a shame some urban adventures set fire to some of the buildings inside the walls and also damaged others but that aside it was a great visit. The staff from the moment we got to the entrance to buy tickets to the boys and girls inside the walls, were fantastic and friendly and answered loads of questions I had after the walk around. I know I’ve mentioned the blues brothers as my reason for the visit but don’t dismiss that this is a history filled location and just as a prison I loved being there and looking around. Good on you and all those involved for keep the place and the history of the prison going and alive. We need to do more of looking after our history and historic buildings around the world before modern society knocks everything down for what is sold to us ( wrongly) as progression!"

"First of all, I took my grandson there and I showed him my old room because I was in there, in 90s. And I can't forget the pyramids cigarettes they used to give us.and he learned a lesson and he started being good in school, cuz, he was acting up and I also want to thank the idoc for changing my life around. I haven't been in trouble over 37 years. And I also volunteer to go to the juveniles and speak to the kids. And I'm also. A nurse. And thank you, Lord. For changing my life. Amen."

"Nice way to spend the afternoon. Although the self guided tour was informative thanks to the strategically placed placards, I will opt for the guided tour on my next visit."

"Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Although gutted a lot of the buildings used in prison break were burnt down in the fire. Cleaner public toilets as they were very dirty! Better gift shop as not a lot to purchase"
