Painted Desert Inn

"Painted Desert Inn is a historic landmark located near the Painted Desert area and offers one of the best viewpoints in Petrified Forest National Park. The building itself is well preserved and showcases beautiful historic architecture, making it interesting even if you’re not a history enthusiast. From the area around the inn, you get wide panoramic views of the Painted Desert, with layered colors stretching far into the distance. This is a great stop to take a break, walk around, and enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace. The viewpoint here feels peaceful and less rushed. It’s easily accessible and works well as a quick stop while driving through the park from the north entrance."

"Great stopping point in the planted desert / petrified forest. The in has art, history, maps, small Cafe, gift shop, and paths to beautiful vista's. It is very clean, well staffed and beautifully kept. Good as a cool place to stop to get out of the sun for a break. Plenty of parking, and photogenic views all the way around. Don't miss looking up in the gift shop. The ceiling is glass panels of native designs. Stunning."

"This is now temporarily re-purposed into visitor center and gift shop since the actual visitor is under renovation. The staff was very friendly and guided us on what important stops to cover in the park within our available time. She also gave ours kids junior park ranger booklets to explore and answer. Kids loved it and attained JR.Ranger certificate at the end of the day."
