Rio Grande Nature Center State Park

"We were there in early November. Trees were gorgeous You pay a $5 fee to park but the Visitor Center is free. The building is made of several feet of concrete so it is cool inside. There is a small gift shop with stickers, books, toy animals etc. There was a very informative decent. We didn't have time to walk the trails but the whole scene is natural beauty. Lots of birds around and the cranes were just starting to arrive"

"Easily accessible and an oasis within the city, The Nature Center provides an escape to a slower, quieter and more natural setting. The Center itself provides educational materials and a wonderful view to the adjacent pond that contains various birds and wildlife across the seasons. You can follow a trail that lies between the Center and the Rio Grande River. Parking currently costs $5 for a day pass (exact change required)."

"Friendly, helpful staff. The indoor viewing area was a pleasant surprise. It provided a comfortable climate controlled spectacular view of the wildlife. There are also multiple outdoor viewing areas and lovely walking and biking paths. Just bring cash for entry and be prepared to spend more time than you think."

"Very nice and well maintained state park. With walking trails and hiking trails along with access to grande rio river. The visitor center offers abundant of information and restrooms and drinking water. Make sure to bring enough water before you head out for a hike."

"Its really nice. Should visit in spring or summer when there is more water, greenery and wildlife. Still a great visit in December."
