2 months ago"We barely made it before closing time, but the kind woman allowed us a few minutes to check it out and we were grateful as this place was very interesting. It's said to be the oldest church in the US, apparently built in 1610! Some notably cool features were the paintings on the back wall, behind the altar. So unique compared to the church artwork I had been exposed to previously. Another is how they preserved a section of the original floor, which was about 3'-4' deeper than the floor we were on! They also have a display of the original wall as it looked before a vital restoration project. Lastly, the bell, which used to be in its rightful place: the bell tower, now finds itself on the floor just inside the chapel's front doors. You're allowed to strike the bell using a tool they provide. The sound was cool and you're encouraged to touch it to experience the vibrations as well. I would have loved a couple of hours to pray in and explore it. But we were grateful to have enjoyed it for as long as we were allowed."

This is one of the oldest churches in that in Santa Fe, New Mexico, if you go cross country or you find yourself in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I highly recommend you put it on your bucket list"

a month ago"It was New Year weekend and we were not lucky to get inside but still worthwhile to be there. It’s a quaint place and next to the visitor center (was closed unfortunately). A must visit and they have clear schedule where you could plan your visit much better than we did! Our visit was random and it was so well worth it!"
