"Walking into the Lincoln Home neighborhood felt like stepping into a different era. The quiet streets, lined with beautifully preserved homes, instantly transported us back to the 1800s — it’s hard to believe this sits right in the heart of Springfield. As we toured Lincoln’s home, each room told a story — simple, lived-in, yet filled with history. Hearing about his life before becoming president made the experience feel personal and real, not just something from a textbook. What stood out most was how immersive everything felt. It wasn’t just a quick stop; it was a chance to slow down, walk the same paths, and imagine life during that time. The park rangers added so much value with their insights and storytelling. Things to know before you visit: The guided house tour is free, but it requires a reservation. Reservations are given on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s best to start at the Visitor Center. Depending on your tour slot, you can explore the surrounding neighborhood or plan a visit to the nearby Illinois State Capitol while you wait. Whether you’re visiting with family or just exploring on your own, this place leaves you with a deeper appreciation of history. A truly memorable and meaningful experience in Springfield."

"This was a fantastic tour. Highly recommend. The park district has done a stellar job of not only recreation of the Lincoln house, but the neighboring houses. Its really impressive. They have a few actual pieces of the Lincolns as well"

"We’ve all seen old signs saying, Abe Lincoln slept here. And he probably did. After all, Lincoln rode circuit throughout the state of Illinois as a lawyer. But this is certainly the big kahuna: the place the great man called home from 1844 to 1861. The house was expanded significantly in 1856, and the house was carefully restored to its 1860 appearance. Even as a student of history I found visiting in 1860 home enlightning. As a giant by the era’s standards you realize quickly that Lincoln ducked a lot or hit his head. We consider cozy would be spacious by their standards. And you tend to take indoor plumbing for granted. This is a wonderful and authentic look into the life of the upper middle class of that era, and then absolute can’t miss for any Lincoln aficionado."

"This was a nice place to visit, learned a lot and it was amazing being at the very spot that not just Lincoln lived, but also actual neighboring homes of those that played a big part in his life, kind of surreal. It was a free tour, thanks to his son. We did have to pay for parking, but at $2 an hour, it didn't break the bank, especially since we weren't there more than an hour."

"Fee is free for a 20-25 minute tour and tickets can be purchased for the home at the museum. The museum is terrific. And the museum and grounds are beautiful. The show is fantastic."
