"The train station is home to the Harvey House, NASA Goldstone Visitor Center, Western America Railroad Museum, Route 66 Mother Road Museum and serves as the current Amtrak Barstow Station. This historic station was constructed in 1911, and at one time home to one of the 84 Harvey Houses built, which were famous for their upscale restaurants, hotels and even dining cars. Today, much of that charm is gone and the station is just a shell of its glorious past. Inside the station you will find an information desk, which on the day of our visit was staffed by a wonderful young lady named Michelle, who was warm, friendly and a pleasure to meet. There are also public restrooms, which are located on the first floor of the station. We did a separate review on the Harvey House side of the station, which contains additional information concerning this beautiful and historic location."

"A really beautiful and historic train station. There’s a few museums and a number of old trains located on the property. It was completely closed and fairly deserted when I was there."

"OK, so this review is of the historic Barstow train station which is located along the railroad tracks. Many of the reviews I see here are for the Barstow Station -- which is NOT this place. The Barstow Station has a McDonalds with a bunch of old train cars and is next to the freeway so please ignore any reviews which appear to be for that place. I wish Google offered a way for me to tell them that the reviewer has the wrong place. Anyway, this station was built in 1911, and featured one of the Santa Fe railroad's famous Harvey Houses, which offered a consistent, quality experience to travelers at a time when accommodations near railstations were often dodgy. Inside the well-preserved station, you'll find a museum and beautiful architecture from the era. This place is also the current Amtrak station. One train per day passes each way on the Southwest Chief. Unfortunately, the scheduled times are in the middle of the night, and there is not much else nearby here, so I imagine that this station can feel dangerous if you're waiting for a train at those hours."
