The San Francisco Street Bar & Grill opened its doors in April of 1985. It was a quiet time in Santa Fe, a depression in the commercial and real estate markets. Downtown had a few lunch spots that closed early and upscale restaurants frequented on special occasions. Where was the place for the common man (or woman) that served continuously through the day and remained open late? The original restaurant was located at 114 San Francisco Street, below street level. Our success was immediate and continued to boom through the late eighties. Casual atmosphere, full bar, efficient service, and hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, creative salads & soups. The restaurant moved in 2003 to the current location which has large windows overlooking historic San Francisco St. and Don Gaspar provide abundant natural lighting. The wide open dining room originally designed as an art space, now attractively exhibits paintings and sculptures that illustrate Santa Fe’s position as the third largest art market in the United States. The copper paneled plate-up area and raw copper heat lamps are integral design elements that continue with copper panels at the bar and hand tooled copper chandeliers by Roberto Gallegos over the entrance stairwell. The San Francisco St. Bar & Grill is a tradition not to be missed. Craft Cocktails. Local Beer. Good Eats. Great People."

Rotisserie chicken (specifically the lemon) is delicious, the Mediterranean salad (pictured) was great and filling, the pasta dishes we’ve tried are okay/good, but man the chicken fried steak is fantastic. The chicken sandwich was also great according to my MIL and another friend, and the desserts we’ve sampled (two varieties of chocolate cake) are DELICIOUS. this place isn’t the cheapest ($18-30 with most dishes priced at $21) but it feels upscale and nice so I’ll bring friends/family from out of town here, then walk them around historic Santa Fe when we finish eating. Overall, very kind staff with a nice atmosphere and great food! We’ll be back!"

I like the open kitchen concept, those cooks work hard and servers try to keep up! My steak was a little tough, it came with dry mashed potatoes and a roasted palano pepper on top with an onion ring on top of that! I wish the pablano was a green chile, yum! The Margarita was sufficiently strong, which is a big plus in most restaurants, but it was a silver coin special! My wife's chicken sandwich was fantastic, surrounded by more fries than we could eat. Prices were great, considering the location. They don't take reservations unless you have a party of 6 or more. We arrived at 6:15 and we're ushered quickly to a table, but as we ate open tables became scarce, plan accordingly!"
