Visit Amarillo

"I lived in Polk Street in the mid 1960's with my then husband who was station at Amarillo Air Force Base. We rented a studio apartment not far from the shopping center ... Woolworths was a short walk from our apartment. As a gal from Brooklyn NY this was quite a change and I enjoyed it very much. I was never about that experience now at 80 years of age. I remember Wanamaker's Dept. Store being on Polk Street. Woolworths was where I purchased most of the kitchen utensils and pots, etc as I was building our tiny studio apartment's galley kitchen. Idi make a few trips to Woolworths as I didn't have a car ...so had to carry my packages back up the streets to the building we lived in. I recall in September there were snow flakes and tumbleweed gently blowing across the street. There was a car dealership directly behind our apartment building where in September they had a party including dunking for apples...it was a light carefree experience to be far from home and see and experience different parts if the country. I'm sure Polk Street has changed considerably over the years but think of my time there fondly...the people were very warm and friendly."

"Amarillo was a bit of a surprise. The downtown seems to be having some lovely investment, Buchanan street is fantastic and Polk is a lot of fun. Excellent walkable package for visitors and I wish I would've booked more time to visit. On the plus side, I'll have to return soon and really explore."

"What can you say about this place other than it is awesome. The food is cooked to perfection, always something new to try, great guys working there. The passion for food is very obvious. Lastly the price for the quality is unmatched. This could be the best place in Amarillo in all honesty. Skip the chains and check this place out. My only wish is they would change the to go containers from Styrofoam to a recyclable plastic (this is very prevalent in Amarillo in general though)"
